[Our
Worship Values] [Our
Worship Services] [Get
Involved]
Important Annoucement: 9:30 Time Change
Starting on Sunday, March 2 our 9:30 AM service will begin at its new time...9:15 AM. This will allow for a more complete worship experience at that service as well as increased transition time in between services. All related ministries (children, youth, sunday school) will also begin at 9:15, so please set those alarm clocks 15 minutes earlier in a few weeks!
Our
Worship Services
One
of the main reasons that we exist as a church
is to provide an opportunity for people to
experience God corporately. We believe
that it is each believer’s
calling to worship and honor God as individuals continuously
throughout their day. However, each week we also gather
together in our worship services to worship God as
a family. Our main goal in worship is to honor God.
Our services are created with His glory in mind. When
you come to a service at Grace, we want you to think
not of what you can receive or get out of the worship
experience (although we expect that you will receive
from the Lord), but of what you can give of yourself
in worship. All of us--pastors, musicians, actors,
technicians, and congregation members alike—worshipers
who are worshiping for His pleasure alone.
To be more specific about our services, especially
in regards to the music in each service, the following
is a brief description of the worship styles we employ
at all three of our worship gatherings. We have three
services, one at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night, one at
9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, and one at 11:00 a.m.
on Sunday morning.
5:30 Saturday service— this
service is contemporary in nature
and employs
a full worship band (drums, bass, guitars, keys,
etc.). The music varies from southern rock to
modern British
rock, country and even occasionally Latin. Mike
Watson, the Pastor of Outreach at Grace, is the
primary speaker
at this service, and the service is geared in
general towards outreach and new Christians.
9:15 Sunday service— this
is our classic or traditional service. The music
is largely piano based, and can include organ,
acoustic
guitar and a range of classical instruments as
accompaniment instruments. We have a vocal ensemble
and a choir,
who each lead worship and share special music
once a month. The style of music is primary classical,
but can include blended contemporary music. Al
Detter, our Senior Pastor, is the primary speaker
at this
service.
11:00 Sunday service— This
service is our Sunday contemporary service and
features a variety of contemporary musicians.
Instruments include drums, bass, acoustic and
electric guitars,
keys, percussion, and occasionally brass or woodwind
instruments. The music ranges in style, but tends
to focus on modern and up to date musical trends.
We strive
to balance the cutting edge of modern worship
with updates of classic hymns and songs. Once
a month
we include a worship choir to help to lead worship
as
well. Al Detter, our Senior Pastor, is the primary
speaker at this service. All three services use
a variety of creative arts to convey the message
of
the gospel
in order to engage the congregation visually
in worship and to introduce metaphors into our
corporate
experience.
Some people respond to plain language, others
connect better with metaphor. In the tradition
of Paul,
we attempt to be all things to all people, and
to that
end, you will see music, drama, video, poetry,
spoken word, and all forms of visual art when
you come to
Grace.
Finally, it is our prayer that when you worship
with us at Grace, that you respond spontaneously
and authentically
to God’s spirit. We want you to feel comfortable
expressing yourself in worship, and to encourage and edify those around you in
positive ways. Physical responses to God’s spirit, such as clapping, the
raising of hands, and falling on ones knees are common occurrences, especially
at our contemporary services. However, we are not a “charismatic” church,
and you will not hear or see public displays of charismatic gifts in our
services. It would best characterize us to say that we do our best to provide
opportunities
for spontaneity, response, and participation for each worshiper in every
service.
We hope you have a better idea of what to expect when you come to Grace, and
that whatever your background or taste, that you will find a service where you
feel welcome to express yourself and experience God in a meaningful way.
