Bio
Hi, I am Laurie Burick. I would like to share
with you a little bit about myself and why I am looking
forward to heading-up the DivorceCare ministry. I have
been attending Grace for 19 years. I have served in
various capacities in many different ministries; I
have visited new comers, been a hostess for MOMS, been
a youth group leader, a Target volunteer (helping the
poor in our community). --- I may look familiar to
some of you because I have been an usher for the past
9 years at the 11:00 service.
In addition, two past ministry involvements are especially
applicable to my desire to work with DivorceCare. One
is a ministry called Broken Vessels, which I co-lead
with Pam Stacy. This was a support group ministry that
covered such topics as codependency, self-worth, and
communication. The other is my involvement with the
DivorceCare ministry itself. I was a participant in
the program approximately 8 years ago; at that time,
I had been married to my second husband, Joe, for roughly
10 years. I realized unresolved issues pertaining to
my first marriage were negatively affecting my second
marriage. Through my participation in DivorceCare I
found much healing and forgiveness. I later went on
to become a small group facilitator in this ministry.
Presently, I attend Edinboro University part-time working
towards a Bachelor in Social Work, with a minor in
Psychology. I am also self-employed as a women’s
group facilitator at Relationship Solutions (formerly
Erie Family Life Skills); where I again help others
work towards emotional and relational health. - I love
to see others become free and grow in their relationship
with Jesus - their ultimate healer and friend. For
relaxation, I enjoy gardening and reading various kinds
of books (even text books). I receive much support
from my wonderful husband of 18-years and between us
we have three adult children.
