What
do you do at Grace? I am secretary
to the Executive Pastor, Derek Sanford, Secretary
to the Bridge Leaders (which are the ministry
leaders of the church) and I’m also the
receptionist.
How long have you been at Grace? My
family and I began attending the church in 1987 – I
have worked here for 8 years.
Family Information: I married
my teenage sweetheart and neighbor in 1976. We
began our family 3 years later. We have 2 sons – Chad
and JJ. Also a dog and cat.
Education:
Jefferson High School, Jefferson Ohio
Fun Stuff:
If you were an animal, what would you
be (why)? Maybe a cat…. what a
life of luxury they have!!
Favorite color: Chartreuse
Favorite Food: Love pasta… seafood,
donuts
Pet Peeve(s): I have several….
Maybe mostly people who don’t clean up
after themselves?
Hobbies: Stamping, and scrap booking,
shopping, reading, decorating, sitting and napping
on my porch in the summer time.
If you had 24 hours to live, what three
things would you do? I imagine I would
be praying first of all….Then, I would
want to just be with those that I love – wouldn’t
matter what I was doing – just being together.
Tell
us about a few influential (or favorite)
books you’ve read:
1. The Bible of course is the
most life changing book I’ve read.
I especially like Psalms.
2. I’m mostly a “recreational” reader – anything
of Francine Rivers peaks my interest.
Spiritual
Stuff:
Tell us a little bit about your spiritual
journey: I went to church on and off
while growing up. Family members were not Christians
at that point in time. In 1979 I made a “deal” with
God - I would bring my children up in the church – if
He would bring a family member through a health
issue….!! (I chuckle when I think of
that now!) Well - He chose to take on my challenge,
and Jeff and I began our real journey after
Chad was born. We really didn’t know
what we were looking for – but knew that
it was within the church. We attended 3 different
churches before we came to Grace Baptist. However,
it wasn’t until Grace that we heard the
plan of salvation. It made perfect sense to
us – and we were shocked that we had
never heard those simple truths before! We
readily accepted Christ and attended church
and Sunday school regularly. Our sons were
active in the children and youth ministries
and accepted Christ as well. Knowing that those
closest to me have chosen Christ as their savior
is the most important thing in my life. Having
the Lord has made it possible to go through
the ups and downs of life.
What
did you do before you
started working at Grace? I worked
in the bookkeeping department of a bank (that
was the department where you looked at cancelled
checks all day long……. ) Then
I worked as a bank teller – stopped
to be a stay at home mom for a few years.
At that point we moved to Erie and Jeff opened
an import auto parts business that I worked
at with him. Then I worked part time at 2
different churches, doing secretarial duties,
until I came to work full time at Grace in
1997.
Why
are you passionate about church and ministry? It
is very exciting to me to see young families
come in to the church and learn about the
life changing truths of Christ, and then
in turn to see them invite their family
and friends. It reminds me of when Jeff
and I first came with our kids – and
what an exciting time that was.
