Brian
Lusky
Director of Music and Worship
What
do you do at Grace? I oversee the
worship bridge here at Grace, and am responsible
for the flow of the weekend services and all
the elements besides the sermon. I lead the
music teams, the choir, and the creative team.
How long have you been at Grace? My
first visit to Grace was in 1999. I interned
here in the summer of 2002 and then was hired
as the Dir. of Music in worship in August 2003.
I became a member of the church in the fall of
2003 as well.
Family Information: My beautiful
bride Rachel and I live here in Erie. My extended
family lives near Baltimore, Maryland, where
I grew up.
Education:
I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University
in August 2003 with a B.S. in Human Development
and Family Studies.
Fun Stuff:
If you were an animal, what would you
be (why)? I was told once that I looked
like a lynx…whatever that is.
Favorite color: I am drawn to reds
and blues, but don’t label me. ; )
Favorite Food: anything SPICY!
Pet Peeve(s): meetings, agendas, dress
codes, organization
Hobbies: Like many of the “Nintendo
generation”, I am an avid video game junkie.
I also enjoy hockey (I can’t play, so I
just watch) , soccer (same as hockey), ultimate
Frisbee, and volleyball (I play those last two).
If you had 24 hours to live, what three
things would you do? Spend time with
my wife and family, finally put down some of
my songs on a CD….oh, and I’d probably
have to find someone to lead worship for me on
the weekend. ; )
Tell
us about a few influential (or favorite)
books you’ve read:
The Bible changed my life.
The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer is my textbook
for worship.
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien taught
me to dream.
Spiritual
Stuff:
Tell us a little bit about your spiritual
journey: God took hold of my life
during my senior year in high school. He led
me to Penn State where I found an awesome Christian
community in a student run church called Alliance
Christian Fellowship. While I was at college
I first felt the call to ministry, and spent
four years there developing my heart as a lead
worshiper. I am just like any Christian…broken,
sinful, caught between his new heart and his
flesh, and struggling to know this infinite
God who so unexpectedly made His presence known
to me without any merit on my part.
What
did you do before you
started working at Grace? I was
doing an internship at Berean Baptist Church
in Mansfield, OH. And before that I was a
student at Penn State and actively involved
in leading worship at my college fellowship,
ACF.
Why
are you passionate about church and ministry? Because
God is passionate about it. Even though
the body is broken, it’s still his
Bride. He wants us to worship together,
fellowship together, reach out together,
grow together, and serve one another. It’s
not a request. So the church is important
to me too.
